A beautiful late 1960s vintage glass necklace. This is without a doubt one of the prettiest examples of its kind!
This stunning vintage necklace features two strands of aurora borealis and foil glass beads. The bottom (front) features a large aurora borealis glass stone and four small beaded lengths that form drops. Some of the beads are light pink, and some are a mix of black and silver or aurora borealis. This beautiful example fastens, unusually, at the front. It also has a ‘safety chain’ to protect the necklace from falling should the clasp become loose.
This necklace is in very good to excellent condition.

Aurora borealis is a manufacturing process first invented by Swarovski* in 1956. The process involves adding a thin layer of gold to glass rhinestones. This forms a coating on the outside which resembles many gorgeous iridescent colours, much like that of the natural phenomena Aurora Borealis (which this process was named after).
The use of Aurora Borealis stones and beads in jewellery was very popular until the mid 1960s, when it fell out of fashion. However, it had a huge resurgence in the later years of the last century when vintage jewellery collectors were drawn to the beauty of the style again!
* Swarovski is a maker of fine rhinestones and Austrian crystals still in business to this day
