Female leaders, women in business and even an all female workforce, like us here at St Cyr, are now very normal occurrences. And it’s about time, right? International Women’s Day is a chance to honour of women for their remarkable contribution to society. But while the day commemorates the inspiring role of women around the world, it also aims to secure women’s rights and build more equitable societies. To mark International Women’s Day 2019, we’ve highlighted four inspirational women in business.
Beyonce
Singer/Superstar
All hail Queen B! There’s her music, tour, films clothing and endorsements among other enterprises, it’s a little hard to keep up! Last year Forbes calculated her net worth to be $355 million, and in June of the same year, ranked her as the 35th highest earning celebrity with annual earnings of $60 million. As a couple with Jay-Z, they have a combined net worth of $1.16 billion. Wow.
Mary Barra
Chairwoman and CEO of General Motors Company
Not necessarily a well-known face, but Mary Barra’s salary is a reported $21.96 million! She is the first female CEO of a major automaker, having taken up her position in 2014. She first worked at General Motors at the age 18 and has progressed through her career to eventually come back and take her place at the top.

Sportswoman
No introduction needed here for Serena Williams. Here tennis has ranked her as world’s number 1, but her fashion on court as often been remarked upon. Williams’s wardrobe has included a black catsuit, denim skirts and knee-high boots. As well as endorsements with Nike she has her own line of designer apparel, ‘Aneres’ – her name spelt backwards.

Biochemist
Forbes named Priyanka Joshi one of the most important young faces in science. She sits at the cutting edge of Alzheimer’s research, and has been praised for her ground-breaking work building that tackles degenerative brain diseases, such as dementia.
